Pohorje is a mountain range rising up above Maribor on the southwestern side of the city. The highest peak of the Maribor part of the range, called Bellevue, lies at 1050 meters above sea level and is accessible by cable car.
Together, Bellevue and Areh represent the largest winter sports centre in Slovenia where ski enthusiasts can enjoy 42 km of ski runs with 20 ski lifts. On top of that, Pohorje has the longest night ski run in Europe. The slopes offer a place for everyone, whether you’re on skis, board, or sleighs. Some tracks are perfect for beginners, other offer a challenge to more experienced athletes. On top of that, there are plenty of regulated tracks for cross-skiing that will take you through unspoilt nature. If you don’t know how to do any of these sports, you can always enrol in one of the many skiing or snowboarding schools for both children and adults.
Interesting in a little pampering after all the fun in the snow? Luckily, there are plenty of wellness centres on and under Pohorje where you can enjoy a long relaxing soak in hot water or sweat the day out in a sauna.
